We’re Giving Away $50k for the Stab Edit of the Year
Introducing the Stab Edit of the Year.
Allow us to introduce our newest property/competition/digital rabbit hole, the Stab Edit of the Year.
In simple terms, the Stab Edit of Year is a competition to find the (get this!) best surf edit of the year. And the kicker? We’re giving away $50,000 USD to the best edit of the year.
Here’s how it works:
What type of video qualifies for the Stab Edit of the Year?
We’re glad you asked.
– The video must be between 6-19 minutes in length (Anything shorter is a web clip. Anything longer is a film.)
– It can involve one OR multiple surfers
– Must be comprised of at least 90% unseen clips—you can make reference to previous films but can’t use them as the foundation of your edit.
– Must be more surfing than lifestyle, and certainly not a vlog.
– You must own rights to the footage/music used in the edit
What does the surfer/filmmaker provide?
– Exclusive rights to the film for two weeks, to live behind our Stab Premium paywall (after those two weeks, the film will be unlocked to the public on Youtube/Vimeo/etc)
– Cover art for the film
– 10x single wave clips for IG
What does Stab provide?
– 5-7 main feed IG posts
– 10 IG stories
– Highlighted in our site’s “Featured posts” section
– Video posted to Stab’s Youtube channel once it’s unlocked
– Separate interview with the surfer and/or filmmaker to run after the edit’s release
Who’s currently in the running?
We know we’re late to announce this, but all of the best edits from earlier in 2020 will also be in the running for Stab Edit of the Year. So, that means…
– Josh Kerr/Matt Kleiner – Sway
– Andrew Doheny/Dane Reynolds – Short Circuit
– Harry Bryant – Bio Haz
– Ryan Callinan/Jack – Just For Now
– Yago Dora/Bruno Zanin – Ciclo
– Mikey Wright/Wade Carroll – Rock
– Ian Crane & friends – Wax on Wacks Off
Voting process:
Every December, we poll 50 of the most influential voices in surfing—surfers, photogs, coaches, etc—for Stab Surfer of the Year. For this year’s poll, we’ll give our subjects a list of all the eligible surf edits to choose from for the Stab Edit of the Year. Their votes will decide who wins the $50k.
First place takes all the loot.
There are no participation trophies here. The $50k will be split evenly between the winning surfer and filmmaker. If there’s more than one surfer and filmmaker involved, we’ll let you all duke it out.
