Watch: Harry Bryant and the Next Great Octopus Part
This is Bio Haz.
Octopus is a surfing hardgoods company known primarily for three things: a comp-averse but uber-talented roster, corduroy tail pads, and the most enthralling team edits of the modern era.
In the past couple years, we’ve seen offerings from Chippa Wilson , Dylan Graves, and Nate Tyler. All incredible.
While the surfing itself is undeniable, what we’re really drawn to is the way Octopus allows their riders’ unique personalities to shine. Dylan Graves rocking cornrows and muggin’ while scantily clad Latinas dance to the tune of ‘Gasolina’ will exist clearly in my mind till the day that I die.
So, it is with much joy that we bring you Octopus’ most recent release with their newest team rider, the universally-adored Harry Bryant. During ‘rona season, Harry and his missus decided to stay in motion (diseases can’t hit a moving target), traveling by car across the whole of Australia, from the mid-east coast to the northwest, surfing all manner of wave and encountering all manner of specimen along the way. It also includes clips from a pre-pandemic trip to Indonesia.
The resulting piece is equal parts raw and endearing, as Harry juxtaposes his warm, affable demeanor with surfing that’s ripe to shatter both ligaments and egos.
Is this the first legitimate entry for 2021 edit of year? We’d say so.
