“Taking Chances, Doing Things The Way You Want To Do It, And Not Giving A Fuck”
Sentiments on risk-taking from our friends over at Db.
Most of our favorite surfers have a habit of putting themselves in treacherous positions on unapproachable waves.
A terrific example is Craig Anderson, hopelessly angling for a diabolically unreachable channel in the opening scenes of Former’s System Is Yours or narrowly holding the edge of a 5’4 Hypto on gargantuan Kandui reef maulers.
If Ando had given a moments thought to either of these escapades, they would have certainly been snuffed out by the vacuum of reason, never to see the worship of surfers worldwide.
But, throughout his career (like many other succesful style stalwarts) Ando has put his head down and just gone. Taken risks. Above, he offers the simple sentiment; “It’s about taking chances, doing things the way you want to do it, and not giving a fuck.”
Our friends over at Db — with whom we have created a collaborative collection of minimalist surf luggage — share this risk taking sentiment. It’s reflected both in their high quality pieces of non-conformist surf luggage, and in their new profile series Pack Heavy, Chase Light — created by our friend Sam Moody.
They’ll be releasing them over the course of the next few weeks, and you can watch the opener above.
