Photolyfe: Steve Wall
From Sydney’s Northern Beaches, to the world’s most daunting and desirable.
Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
Steve Wall’s work could be seen as a passionate encounter with mother nature’s wildest temperaments. Growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the company that he made had a penchant for chasing bigger and thicker waves, and so in turn, pulled Steve towards a similar subject in his photography. He was just 16 when he first swam out with a little Olympus point and shoot, and it wasn’t long before his work was internationally renowned, travelling all corners of the globe to add to his cache of fine moments. Now he’s focused his energy to a new field; designing and implementing underwater equipment for all those who share similar water-born passions – perhaps his way of giving back. We’ll leave you with his delightful answers below.
