At thrashable Monaliza Point in the Philippines, Stab High alumnus Bronson Meydi trumped Stab Innocents Winter Vincent for the World Junior Title.

It was a high-scoring soiree — with Bronson scoring a Perfect 10 for a combo plate of airs and Winter backing him up on the very next wave with a 9.09. In the end, Bronson’s 18.80 heat total bested Vincent’s 17.84 for the win. Thanks to Bronson, Indonesia finally has a much-deserved title headed back home.

With his win, Bronson also clinched an automatic spot in this year’s Challenger Series, making his dream of a CT campaign ever nearer.

“This feels so amazing, and I’m still a bit in shock,” Meydi said. “To do this for Indonesia feels so special. I’m super proud to bring this trophy home. It’s been an amazing week here in the Philippines. I always love my time here, and it just got a whole lot more special.”

On the Women’s side, Luana Silva narrowly beat Japan’s Kana Nakashio with a winning score at the buzzer.

On the podium, Luana dedicated the win to her friend who recently passed away. It was a special moment as the characteristically healthy-numbered Brazilian contingent cheered her on. After falling off the CT last year, Luana will be on the Challenger Series this year fighting for her spot back.

This year’s World Junior Championship was also unusually well-attended; Joel Parkinson & Jack Freestone both joined Stace Galbraith, Paul Evans & Jesse Mendes to call a few heats on the mic. That’s five World Titles, four Triple Crowns, a Pipe Master, a middle-aged Brit and a Stab Joyride co-star at the office desk.

It was also encouraging to see so many Indonesian competitors, friends, and fans make the trip to support their surfers. With Rio Waida already taking scalps on Tour and Bronson well on his way, it might not be long ’til Indonesia bags its first World Title on the big stage.
