50 Fight For The Bight Protests Scheduled For Tomorrow, Here’s How To Act!
National Day of Action planned for November 23.
It’s crunch time for the Great Australian Bight. Oil giant Equinor has until November 29 to resubmit their drilling plan, and surfers ain’t taking it laying down.
On Saturday, November 23, there is a National Day of Action planned. There are currently more than 50 protest paddle-outs scheduled. You can find a paddle-out near you here.
“Tomorrow will see the largest collective coastal environmental rally ever seen in Australia, the whole nation paddling out to save the Great Australian Bight,” wrote surf scribe Sean Doherty on his Insta feed.
Patagonia just released a film documenting Heath Joske’s involvement with the movement.
“Our major political parties are spineless and heavily lobbied by fossil fuel lobby groups,” Joske told Stab earlier this year. “We have a big fight ahead. We have huge opposition and the closer Equinor gets to approval, and the more our government doesn’t listen or makes promises that mean nothing, the angrier and more opposition they will receive.”
So there you go, if you’re in Australia this weekend and don’t have anything planned, get up, stand up, and help save the Bight.
