Hold My Cuppa Tea, England Has Spitting Pointbreaks?!?

Are you havin’ a laugh?

England is best known for David Beckham, Fish and Chips, and Big Ben.

It is not particularly well known for its surf culture.

While its neighbouring countries in the United Kingdom (Scotland and Northern Ireland) are increasingly being trafficked as surf-destinations that hold quality (and psycho) cold water waves, England is often overlooked for surf trips by virtue of it being better for other things (watching football, pubs) and it needing highly specific swell directions coming from the Atlantic (needs a SW to crank).

However, when the stars do align, it can actually pump.

Liam Turner is the surfer in this clip, a 25-year-old goofyfoot from Cornwall on England’s SW tip. Liam assured us this session was a novelty, “I wish it was just that the English are great at keeping secrets but it’s not. Ireland and Scotland get way better waves than us. This wave is pretty damn fickle; it’s one of a few points around our area. Don’t get me wrong we’ve got some really good setups, they just don’t get very good that often, it’s mainly got a lot of consistently average beach breaks.”

Liam’s just moved to Indo for the next six months to teach yoga and put together some surf clips in consistent, quality waves. The guy rips, has low standards for waves, and presumably is super bendy, so we’re looking forward to see him delightfully tear apart some Indonesian gems.

But hey, next time you find yourself in a far-flung London Pub with a SW blob on the forecast, maybe think about getting down to Cornwall.

You might get lucky.

But probably not.
