There’s always a back story, some impromptu purchase with a compelling tale behind it that gets taller every time it’s told. Towels are the best novelty purchases because you don’t have to wear them and they actually serve a purpose. The issue with the novelty towel is that it’s, without fail, made from low quality fabric by workers on a slave’s wage, and it’s time with you is just a fleeting moment before it fulfils its destiny and lays itself down in landfill. 

Luckily for those of us fond of novelty towels who also hold the environment in high regard, Slowtide have partnered with Modelo in the name of a bit of fun. For the uninitiated, Modelo’s an inexpensive Mexican beer that’s enjoyable when extremely cold, and ideally after surfing a pumping Mexican beach or point break with a few good pals. The branding’s great however, and as a result (much like PBR before it) it’s enjoying a brief period of vogue.  

There’s two towels in the release, the more subtle blue logo towel and the classic Modelo can. A kitsch towel does wonders for morale after a sub-par surf, and if you’re in need then you may as well shell out for something that’s going to last. If there’s one thing that Slowtide knows it’s towels, so why not dry yourself whilst simultaneously celebrating what Mexican beer’s done for the world.
