RVCA’s Radical Rainy Day Banzai Burger Bro Down With Matty Matheson

Did someone say “wild board bacon?”

The secret to a really fucking delicious hamburger, Matty Matheson, Viceland’s heavyweight champion of food jernalizm, star of star of It’s Suppertime and Dead Set On Life, explains to Stab, is the right ratio of fat to lean meat—track down some ground round with something like 30% fat, flame broil those patties and tell us he’s wrong.

The satisfied and satiated looks on the couple hundred kids, babes, and bros smashing Matty’s Patty’s at RVCA’s Banzai bbq yesterday afternoon spoke volumes, the double cheeseburgers dripping with flavor and topped with what Matheson told Stab was “wild board bacon.” Trust us, they were bonkers.

Despite thorough intermittent rinsings from wind-whipped bursts of rain, the crowd huddled in and held their ground in the long line for burgers, while tipping back tins and watching the groms slip and slide all over the skatepark.

RVCA founder Pat Tenore made his rounds, while Sage Erickson and Alana Spencer helped the Slowtide boys with their natural dying, letting guests make their own indigo-dyed turkish towels, the $20 donation going to charity.

Matheson made his rounds in a very sheer and thoroughy soaked Grateful Dead tee, hamming it up with fans for Instagram posts, while monitoring the grill situation closely.

All in all the event made for a soggy but splendid afternoon. Click through the gallery above, or scroll south for a look at a Sunday funday like only the North Shore can deliver.
