Possessions Make you Rich?
Five check-ins at the Stab Recs Motel.
It’s best to keep these informative rather than aspirational. There’s not much point ruminating on owning Swiss watches or (genuine) Eames furniture as I tap away from my inexpensive Chilean lodgings, as it’s not reality for me, or, I suspect, you. Instead here’s a list of things I (we) own, like, or have included in attempt to gain favour with advertisers. See if you can tell which is which.
Sneakers with Surprising Longevity
You wouldn’t expect a cream, suede sneaker to be a candidate for your everyday shoe. But that’s exactly what these have been for the last, ooh, two years. Comfy as hell, and still remarkably cream.
Amplify your Intelligence and Influence People
Want my advice? Wear glasses: people assume you’re smart and you know what you’re doing. These (currently the second pair) have been perched on the beak for a while, and the compliments have been plentiful.
A Remarkable Musing on Place
I’m not going to be one of those tiring jerks who claims to read a book a week. I don’t, usually, but I did just get through Bruce Chatwin’s transient South American opus this week. A bit of an obvious one, perhaps, but an extraordinary piece of journalism none the less. A wandering, plotless tale that’s wholly engrossing, and a lesson in place for anyone who puts finger to key.
In Patagonia, by Bruce Chatwin
Trunks in the Style of a Dead Artist
Mimicry is certainly the highest of flatteries, and these daring trunks look straight out of Keith Haring’s sketchbook. That’s not a bad thing in our books, and it’s time to add a little colour, to compliment the black on the trunk rack. It’s also worth mentioning that these trunks (and as of the next drop, the whole Bong range) are made using thread spun out of single use plastic. Neat.
Aquatic Hot Rod
We like limited, especially when it comes to surfboards. Highline Surf Co does one-off collabs with shapers, that’s it. Like this Josh Keogh Mustang twin. I haven’t got my mitts on one of these (yet), but the fish that Josh made me a year ago has been my greatest surfboard love affair. Josh reckons this is the best board he’s made, and I trust his judgement. Just looking at it’s causing a spike in arousal.
