PhotoLyfe: Ian Thurtell
Straight outta the RSA.
Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
Ian Thurtell hails from Africa. More specifically the furthest southern point, Cape Town, ZAF. He developed a love for surf photography through his dad’s early 70’s Surfer, Surfing and South African Zigzag magazines for whom he holds the lens for now. Straight out of high school he made his own water housing and hasn’t looked back. In fact today, 12 years later, he still makes his own housings, molded to the specific gear he chooses. Drink it in, the water’s sharky, clear and goes down smooth.
