Breaking: West Oz Final Rounds To Be Finished At Uluwatu!
Did someone say Padang-Padang?
Remember how there was talk of the remaining heats of the Men’s and Women’s Margaret River Pro—which was canceled as the WSL retreated from the region, unwilling to allow their athletes to enter the water as willing pieces of the food chain—being finished later on in the year?
Well, fresh off the wire to Stab HQ, we’ve gotten confirmation that following the Corona Bali Pro at Keramas, the surfers left hanging at the Margies event will finish their rounds at Uluwatu.
In recent years Rip Curl’s held down Padang, in the form of the Rip Curl Cup, but the World Tour hasn’t seen a CT even on the Bukit Peninsula since the 2008 Rip Curl Search event at Padang (which Bruce Irons won).
With the Keramas event ending no later than June 9th, and Jeffreys Bay’s waiting period beginning July 2nd, the tour’s schedule leaves a generous gap of time to finish the event.
The Dream Tour sans Indo event was never going to cut mustard—the WSL managing to finagle a workaround like this is a victory, after the deflated nature of the Tour’s departure from the Australian leg. Not to mention—a million wailing goofyfoots must just be celebrating this call—a hollow left in dire need with Fiji’s cancelation.
At this time, no waiting period has been announced.
You can see the full remaining heat draw on the WSL’s site, here, but we know most of you will still be raw from being denied the opportunity to see John John try and bully Mikey Wright in their Round 3, as well as, Julian Wilson and Kael Walsh.
The WSL will surely be releasing details shortly, and we’ll have more soon.
Well played, KP. Well played.
