Two West Australian surfers have been missing in mainland Mexico since the 20th November. Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman, from Golden Bay in Perth, were last seen on the 20th in Topolobampa on the Gulf of California after catching a ferry there from Cabo San Lucas. They were reportedly planning to drive through the night to Guadalajara, a city where Adam’s girlfriend lives.
A burnt out van similar to the one that the Perth pair were travelling in has been found in the state of Sinaloa – one of the most violent zones in Mexico – and there’s reports that two bodies were found with the vehicle.
“Nothing is confirmed,” Dean Lucas’s girlfriend Josie Cox told the ABC, “It’s just a similar van.”
The most recent update from Adam and Dean’s friends and family came on the 28th November via Josie Cox on Facebook. “We’d like to update everyone to announce we have had some distressing developments which we have not yet had confirmed,” she wrote. “We would appreciate any updates on information if you know anyone that has any, but ask that the Lucas and Coleman family have some privacy at this time. Once we have confirmed news, we will update everyone ASAP.”
Dean and Adam are childhood friends and frequent surf travellers who had been travelling through remote parts of Mexico on a surf trip. We’ll keep you updated with more information when it’s released.
