It’s no secret wavepools have become instrumental in fostering the rapid progression of the next generation.

Patti Zhou, Erin Brooks, Sky Brown, Sierra Kerr, Hughie Vaughan, Dakoda Walters, etc.

The list of remarkable talents — and Stab High invitees — who have sharpened their technique in the repetitive sections offered by artificial wave technology is endless.

For everyone without sticker-based financial backing, however, rapid progression through this technology has never been a cost-effective possibility.

Fortunately, we’re starting to get a hell of a lot closer.

This month, URBNSURF Melbourne — a pool which we’ve visited for initial testing, QS events, and blindfolded tube riding — has begun offering their Winter Warriors package.

For $1500 AUD, you get unlimited sessions for a month.

While $1500 may still feel like a big number, let’s do a bit of Cost Per Use analysis.

According to the pool, one surfer who signed up for the deal in May has managed to surf 35 sessions in a single week — including a day of 9 sessions. In a given session, they estimate each surfer rides anywhere from 10-12 waves.

11 x 35 = 385 waves in a week
4 x 385 = 1540 waves in a month

Meaning, if you have nothing to do in the month of June and you want to significantly improve your air/tube/rail game, you can have four weeks of waves tailored to your progression for just under a dollar per ride. And according to our friends on site, the cold temperatures of winter usually mean quieter lineups and notably more than 10-12 waves per sesh.

For reference, using the same metrics, waves are about $10 a pop in any standard session at the Melb pool.

Oh, and whoever clocks the most sessions in a month gets a free, private, afterhours session in the pool which they can invite up to 36 of their friends to.

Essentially, whoever has the most fun gets to have more fun.

Around the Stab office, the conclusion has been unanimous — if we lived in Melbourne, we’d be getting on this with pace. No doubt an entire month spent learning straight airs, perfecting proper pig-dog technique, or refining your cutty would leave you with a veritable stamp of progression and a memory bank full of visions.

Probably the best deal in surfing at the moment.

Don your 4/3 and sign up for the month of June here.
