Stab Podcast: The WSL Needs To Adopt The Ancient Practice Of Perineum Charging (Butthole Sunning)
Confounding tales from our sun-kissed trip to Lemoore, and a chat with Queer Surf.
Surf news doesn’t stop.
It can’t. There’s too much going on. Contests results, wave pool blueprints, and shark attacks are all valuable pieces of information that may or may not impact your next session.
Thank surf god we have Danny Johnson, the man who gathers all the breaking news, gets the right people on the phone, and delivers the weekly paper directly to our doorstep. This week, he’s got quite the variety of guests. Let’s get to it:
Tweed Coast Pro
Our favorite set of WSL eyes and ears, Stace Galbraith, hung around the recent QS event on the Tweed Coast. Through him, we learned that Sierra Kerr made the most out of her WSL debut. After dropping a handful of mind melting free surf edits at only 14 years old, it’s becoming clear that Sierra can also translate her talent into competition.
A Lemoore trip from hell
Nothing like a nice breath of hellish desert air to start your day. BDPS and I made the five-hour voyage to Lemoore last weekend—not because of fandom, but for a research project on perineum sunning and how it could potentially benefit surfers. It was the relentless execution of a terrible idea, much like the Surf Ranch Pro itself.
Queer Surf
Dylan Graves recently launched a new series called Breaking Waves, which tackles specific social issues around surfing. Episode 1 connects us with San Francisco-based Queer Surf, an organization dedicated to creating a safe space for marginalized people. Dylan Graves and Queer Surf co-founder Kyla Langen discuss the hardships facing gay surfers and explore how we can be better allies LGBTQ+ wave riders.
