Sugar The Surfing Dog’s Life Story
It turns out Sugar’s had more than just a positive impact on our social media scroll fests.
Sugar’s a Huntington Beach local and she probably surfs better than half of the people out there. You’ve seen her parading the feeds of your preferred social scroll-fest, high-lining over a suspicious silhouette and if you’re into the K9 competitive circuit, you’ll know she’s won multiple international dog surfing competitions too.
This short sheds a little light on the backstory to Sugar’s life and the positive impact she’s had beyond all of us double-tapping our screens to a surfing dog.
In essence, Ryan Rustan saved Sugar from a shelter at 6-months old and in return, Sugar changed the life of a “straight up raw”, Ryan. Now the two of them spend their days sharing waves at Huntington and confuse onlookers who’ve never seen a dog take to a shortboard before.
And if ‘feel good’ tales don’t quench your Sunday content hopes, then at least you can take solace in knowing that footage of a surfing dog – that seemingly enjoys it – is just around the corner*.
