Paige Alms: Jaws.

Thursday morning, Paige Alms navigated a Jaws barrel as good as any of the world’s XXL elite, maybe better. “Everyone from the cliff thought I was a guy,” Paige recalls. In retrospect, Paige acknowledged that wave as the best she’s ever ridden, flying out of the tube with an ear-to-ear grin Being one of only a few women in the Jaws lineup, Paige feels no pressure. “There’s Keala, Myself, and Andrea…there’s always a couple girls that come over and catch a couple little ones, but we’re the three girls that are consistently out there when its good and when its big, catching and making waves.” Within minutes of kicking out, the Maui surfing community was already buzzing. “I can’t even believe how many texts and phone calls I’ve had about that wave.” While the Big Wave World Tour has yet to include women surfers, Paige hopes that will change soon. “I don’t see why there couldn’t be at least an hour of each event dedicated to woman’s heat.”
