We are aware how cliché it sounds when a one-session clip is referred to as being ‘raw’ or ‘real’, but would you rather us use even more disturbing terminology, such as ‘organic’? No, you wouldn’t. This is footage collated from one session of Gabriel Medina surfing between Pipeline and Off The Wall. It’s as good as you’d expect it to be, but also very raw (last time we promise), with a few v minor slipups from Gabs, and Paul Daniel (director) ignoring the urge to include only the very best leaps. All that said, it’s fucking brilliant.
“It was a few days before the start of the waiting period of the Pipe event,” says Paul. “It was pissing down with rain and most of the boys went into town to watch movies. Gabe decided to head out for a paddle. I pulled out my camera and setup out of the rain on the deck of the Rip Curl house. Gabe then paddled out at Off the Wall and surfed his way to Pipe and back. He was in the water for about three hours.” This clip is courtesy of our pals at Rip Curl. The music is by The National. And the song is “Mistaken for Strangers”. That should be everything you need to push play, so go ahead.
