Nic Von Rupp Takes Ireland By The Rope
Beauty is boring and Mullaghmore’s anything but.
Nicolau Von Rupp quite literally has friends in high places. Just south of the Scottish highland’s, Ireland’s wave-rich coastline has been a destination of Nic’s for over 8 years, making it only right that he visit the evergreen isle for his Von Froth web series.
Borrowing Andrew Cotton’s ski, Nic enjoys a pre-session coffee with the local crew (although who would blame them if there was a little whiskey in that there thermos?), yet again flexing his well earned position and respect among big wave’s elite.
The waves were admittedly smaller than expected, yet not small enough for them to leave the tow boards on the beach, which actually provides some context into one of the crazier rides we’ve seen out of Mullaghmore. Ever.
Everyone remembers THAT Tome Lowe wave from this past big wave season, but somehow this clip is even crazier, knowing that a man of NVR’s caliber chose to tow while Tom (literally) stuck to his guns. Lowey wins the session, Nic packs a couple of waves straight out of a nightmare and that’s that! We wouldn’t be surprised if the boys are still shivering after this one.
PS: Frigid wax on epoxy is officially surfing’s version of nails on a chalkboard. Listen in at 3:06 to give yourself the heebie jeebies.
