Mason Ho’s Plot To Make Stab High A Leashless Event
And, “shotgun some beers…”
“I just want to do air with no leash,” Mason Ho tells Stab on his plans for Waco. “Wait… are we allowed to not wear leashes?”
And we answered, “yeah, why not?”
This leash conversation stems from Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch’s strict leash policy: no surfer allowed in the pool chordless.
In fact, a few months back, Thomas Campbell was set to go the Surf Ranch with Al Knost, Jared Mel, Burch and some other mixed company, to shoot for a film he’s been working on. Then news that any board—long, short, finless or asymmetrical—was forbidden sans ankle clasp broke, and they pulled the shoot.
“I hate leashes in photos,” Mason continues. “I can’t wait to get some with no leash. Back in the day, all the old photos in the old magazines were all no leashes, and nowadays every photo I see I just see the leash dangling. I’m like, how’s this blown leash?
Sometimes I’ll be like, Dad, check this photo I got? And he’ll be like, Oh, how’s that leash? And I’m like, what the fuck, why are you always pointing the leash out?” he laughs.
“So, I’m gonna try and get everyone to do the event no leash… Oh, and I’m pretty psyched to go hang out with the boys.”
Stab High is happening Sept 22 at BSC Cable Park in Waco, Texas.
