Wait… Is ‘Unprofessional Tech’ Our New Favourite Boardshort Style?
INMINDSEYE and a technical trunk for those who won’t wear technical trunks.
Resplendent with schoolbook graff and rigid-look denim, the INMINDSEYE entry for “A Place In The Sun” certainly looks like a vintage store find. And is this the new normal for many surfers? The kind who can’t ignore technical requirements (industry talk for “stretch”), but cringes at performance-marketed surf shorts? Absolutely. “What we like about this trunk is that it really can be worn in and out of the water comfortably,” says IME’s designer of the 18” entry. “The stretch poplin fabric is actually pretty tech in an ‘unprofessional way’, but paired with the denim detailing and raw edge stretch cotton canvas hem, gives it a less high-performance surf feel, which is what Inmindseye really is.” There are certainly worse brand philosophies in the world.
