All Hail Matt Hoy!
One of Merewether’s finest knockabout blokes, Matt Hoy is still an animal!
Here’s a little inspiration and motivation: Matt Hoy, Merewether royalty, steamrolling into 47 next month, schooner in hand and boards in tow, on the road with the Quiksilver lads he so lovingly keeps under-wing, pushing turns and threading barrels.
Famous for his penchant for heavy metal and forever rocking his iconic Iron Cross sprayjobs, according to Matt Warshaw, “In 1992, when a Surfing magazine subscriber wrote in to protest Hoy’s use of the Hitler-associated Iron Cross as a surfboard graphic, the magazine noted that Hoy was “neither a member of nor believer in the Nazi party.” Two years later, Australia’s Surfing Life offered Hoy $100 if he could ‘contain his satanic ways long enough to sit through a church service.’ He cheerfully declined.”
Yeah, we’re fans.
