Coming Soon On Stab Premium: Water Get No Enemy
A documentary about former child soldiers taking up surfing in Liberia.
From Monday, May 31 until Wednesday, June 9th, Water Get No Enemy will be playing on Stab Premium.
This film ain’t the usual air-rev compilation we’re all too familiar with in surf. Instead, the 47-minute documentary takes us on a trip to Liberia, where world-class waves offer a therapeutic release for individuals who were traumatized by a not-so-distant conflict.
Liberia was ravaged by a pair of civil wars from 1989 to 1997 and from 1999-2003. They killed about 500,000 people, and many children were forcibly recruited to serve in the army.
Today, some of the former child soldiers are surfers. This is the focus of Water Get No Enemy.
Written and directed by French professional surfers and filmmakers Damien Castera and Arthur Bourbon, and by Hand Studio and Almo Film, Water Get No Enemy was originally released in the French language last year. The film toured around festivals, winning awards and earning mainstream media coverage in Europe. Stab Premium is proud to share the recently-released English version of the film.
The launch on Stab Premium coincides with a GoFundMe to build a surf club at Robertsport, which is home to one of Liberia’s best waves (as you’ll see in the film). Stab will be donating to the project in exchange for the rights to air the film.
If the spirit moves you, we invite you to do the same.
