Let’s Not Pretend Barron Mamiya Is Still A Pipeline Dark Horse
Watch him casually taunt full-throttle Pipeline and Rocky Point to a bold soundtrack.
After two full CT seasons under his boardies, this will be the first year Barron Mamiya will ride for Channel Islands since switching from Sharp Eye.
Based on his Pipe/Backdoor/Rocky Point warmups featured above, he looks as spicy as ever. The 24-year-old Hawaiian who went from wildcard to full-time CT workman in 2022 (by being a killer at Pipeline and winning Sunset) will be looking for another statement win this year, this time with Britt Merrick’s sage hands in his corner.
On the freesurfing side, Barron has never held back when it comes to his creative output. You may recall his arsenal of Snapt4 clips was voted the film’s best part by Taj Burrow, Mick Fanning and Bobby Martinez in 2021. His barrage of airs and absurd make rate out of Pipeline caverns were set to a bold (and somewhat familiar) track with pastor and electronics riffs.

The above clip is another notch in Barron’s creative cap and a reminder of his confidence in astonishingly heavy surf. If you play Ye on an edit, you better bring your A-game. And Barron delivered. Kudos to Parker Davis for the distinct editing style.
Mikey C has picked Barron as a dark horse to win the 2024 Pipe Pro (should be pumping tomorrow), and threw down $20 on Barron (+2500) to win the event and hopefully net him $500. Make your own picks on betonline.ag here.
