An Unconventionally Charming Surf Family
Meet the Armstrongs — all 10 of them.
Big wave surfers are a special breed of human.
Their muscles move quick while their minds run in slow motion, allowing them to catch and caress chunks of water that could be mistaken for small apartment complexes…traveling at 40 kph.
But swells often go as quickly as they came, leaving big wave surfers to wonder, “beyond dancing atop large ocean abrasions, what is the meaning of life?”
For the former Big Wave World Champion and devastatingly handsome Ian Armstrong, it’s family. But also surfing. And definitely not 5G.
Directed by Arthur Neumeier, ‘The Armstongs’ tells the story of Ian Armstrong, his wife Lee, and their eight (8!) kids, who moved to the South African bushland for a life of serenity, relative solitude, and of course, surfing.
While the whole “off the grid” life might not appeal to all of us, you can’t deny the connection it’s afforded the Armstrong family. Their love and affinity for one another is palpable in every scene.
What would you sacrifice for that?
