A Future Olympian And A Surf Comedian Hunt Decades-Old Sand Banks In New Zealand

Will they run out of petrol before finding that elusive “down the beach” peak?

Billy Stairmand is all but guaranteed to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Games under New Zealand’s stars and bars.

As he will be representing both of New Zealand’s islands and all of their collective coasts in the Olympics, it’s only right that Billy refamiliarizes himself with the Kiwi nation and its many beaches before the August Games. So, Billy set out on a good ol’ fashioned road trip with his friend and comedic anchor, Luke Cederman, to the other side of the peninsula, where a northeast swell provided waves of varying quality.

While the boys chased decades-old sandbanks and struggled to keep the gas gauge above E, they filled the downtime with classic Antipodean banter and the occasional impromptu ballad (watch til the end).

The surfing in this clip is a 3/10 and the filming a negative-6, but you’ve gotta rate two dudes hitting the highway and sharing film duty. Also they’re quite funny.
