If you didn’t catch the last episode of The Drop, Stab’s OG podcast — or if you’re a staunch visual learner — you’re in luck.
“What I didn’t want was just our heads in the middle of the screen for an hour chatting about bullshit,” Mikey C said as Liam O’Brien sheared the top off a hapless Victorian right. “But now we actually have surfing to watch while you listen to us, and there’s a snippet of us in the corner. I feel like it’s going to be a more enjoyable experience and will allow us to react to turns like that.”
That’s the ethos behind this latest edition of The Drop, which represents the first video podcast Mikey and Stace have published for the masses in the seven years they’ve run the production. And though it’s a far cry from the production quality or the talent featured on StabMic, the boys do have one thing in their favor — brown hair.
Cute highlights though, Dooma and Josiah.

For clarity, not every Drop episode will follow this visual format. Just the ones before Championship Tour events, with a hired sniper planted in the sand, lens trained on the frenetic lineups. That’s the case here, as Mikey and Stace indulge in a 50-minute reel of Wikipop and Bells getting sliced and diced by Medina, Ewing, Gilmore, Lelior and beyond.
And just imagine, for a moment, being personally present in these lineups. Dozens of the world’s best men and women revving their engines simultaneously. The average level of surfing is stupefying. Paddling around trying to get set waves is like trying to get into a pickup game in a gym full of NBA players. Your eyes in a constant state of sting on account of all the spray.
As for those heads in the corner, Mikey and Stace cover a range of topics and storylines that serve as a reminder of welcome truth: pro surfing is so back. Talking points include forecast predictions, dark horses, favorites, and scintillating first-round matchups, and the brutal reality of eliminating non-elimination heats.
