Footage Of “The Best Wavepool In The World” Leaks From Brazil
A private pool in the heart of São Paulo, brought to you by Perfect Swell.
If you’ve been keeping up with our feed the last few days, you’ll know that Brazil now has a wavepool featuring two air sections on one wave. Pretty bonkers.
Some of you were disappointed that you had to register for an Instagram account to see the clips. Fair enough. We’ve gone ahead and put all the raw clips together — without music — in one edit for your convenience.
We’ve also gotten a bit more info from Miguel Pupo and Evan Geiselman on what they’re claiming is PerfectSwell’s greatest creation yet.
Apparently, it’s also going to be their most exclusive.
The pool is located in the currently-being-constructed Boa Vista Village, which will be a luxury real estate complex with residential facilities and what we’re told is a “very fancy hotel.”
Evan explains, “It’s gonna be a private pool for the neighborhood and the hotel at Boa Vista Village. It’s not gonna be open to the public unless you stay at the hotel. It’s a huge project going on.”
Is it worth the tremendous coin you’ll likely have to shell out?
Miguel thinks so.
“The pool is crazy,” say the recent Teahupo’o champ. “I thought Waco was super fun when I went there, but they’ve literally made this wave twice as fun. The double air section is nuts. At first we were doing two surfers per wave — you can see in the clip I do an air and then Sammy does a second air, but then after that, we realized we could maybe connect them.”
“I think Evan was the first one to connect the two sections, he did a slob straight air and then an air reverse. That was when we realized it was possible, and we started having lots of fun. I would say today it’s the best wavepool in the world — you can do a turn before the first air section, and then you can do a turn after, and then another air. It’s like a 10-point ride.”
The new pool is twice the size of Waco or PerfectSwell’s Japanese pool, and they’ve aptly titled the double air wave “The DoubleShot.”
“It’s like a skate run — I feel like it’s gonna dictate the future of pool events,” says Evan, excitedly. “It takes out the simplicity of doing just one air, you have to surf a complete wave and make everything flawless in transition.”
“Best in the world” is a heavy claim, and certainly relative to the sort of surfing you like to do. In truth, 99% of us are never making that transition between air sections, but, for trained aerialists, this pool is a dream come true.
According to the PerfectSwell team, there will also be a “variety of a-frame waves, long drainers, new Lowers type waves, and other combinations for the Boa Vista residents and hotel guests to enjoy.”
Tentatively, it should be open in a few months.
