“As a surfer, you are fully aware of what you’ve done," says Dion. "The clips you've banked and where they live. But most people might’ve only seen one or two of those clips. With Mason's launch video, we went through four years of footage he and Rory had filmed, picked the most entertaining moments, and remixed it in a new context. So hopefully it feels fresh, even if people had seen bits of it on YouTube." Here's the Electric Acid, Cheat Codes, Stab High and Search star wearing the Demon Speed. Frame by Wade Carroll

Mason Ho is officially a cult member. And yep, we’ll grab a late note. The Hawaiian freesurfer and SSOTY-winning YouTube yoda has been wearing Ritual-plated wraparounds since January, but only went official in recent weeks.

Needless to say, signing Mason is a huge coup for the eyewear brand, who’ve steadily assembled one of the most high-powered, culturally impactful teams in surfing since launching last year.

That’s Mikey Wright, Noa Deane, Parker Coffin, Dion Agius, Harry Bryant, Rolo Montes, Holly Wawn, Milla Coco Brown, and now @cocom4debarrelkilla.

The Mason announcement coincides with a pivotal shift in Ritual’s position: their somewhat awkward entry into the U.S. market.

“Definitely a tricky time to launch anything in the U.S. with the tariffs,” laughs creative advisor Dion Agius. “The company had been working on U.S. distribution for a while, and demand was building, so we figured it was time to give it a crack.”

For now, they’re forging ahead with a mostly direct-to-consumer model. “Ritual has a U.S. headquarters set up, the online store is up and cranking, and we’ve just started stocking in a few premium surf shops—Jack’s, Sun Diego, Laguna Surf & Sport. We’re hoping to partner with more epic surf stores around the country soon.”

“We were in Hawaii for three weeks and ended up at Parker’s house pretty much every day—he lives right in front of Pipe,” says Dion. “He’s such a surf nerd in the best way—boards, fins, old movies, obscure edits—his knowledge is insane, and he absolutely rips.” That trip marked the beginning of Parker’s unofficial role with Ritual. “At the end, we asked if he wanted in, and he was frothing. We’ve kind of soft-launched him since, but we’re working on a proper part to announce it officially,” Dion says. “He’s one of those guys who’s stacked years of incredible footage across different projects, but you’ve never seen it all in one place. That’s what we’re trying to do—bring it together and show the full picture.”

Along with Parker Coffin, Mason will be spearheading Ritual’s propaganda machine across the mainland and Hawaiian Island chains. You really couldn’t get two more different, yet equally magnetic personalities to move units.

Parker, one of the most analytical brains in surfing already has runs on the board – two of Channel Islands’ best-selling boards: the Fishbeard and the SITD-winning CI Pro 3.0 were the result of his and Britt Merrick’s collaboration. Mason too is largely to blame for Lost’s best-selling model – the RNF ‘96 – though he tends to communicate in astral metaphors or cryptic surf wisdom whispered by dolphins.

Culturally, Ritual Vision is exciting—if for no other reason than getting this crew on trips together, with 2x Stab Surf Filmmaker of the Year Wade Carroll’s lens pointed at their domes.

Wade and his Bolex, Ireland, 2023.

They’ve already ticked off a few locations: Morocco (Mikey Wright, Lungi Slabb, Jai Glindo), Costa Rica (Mikey, Harry, Rolo, Dion), and Mexico (Mason, Mikey, Dion, Hughie V, Milla, Holly)—all of which will feature in Ritualistic Tendencies, the brand’s debut surf film, slated for a December release.

And since you’ve read this far—and the cat’s halfway out of the bag—yes, Hughie Vaughan is also joining the cult. Since winning Stab High Japan, breaking the internet in Texas, and getting interviewed by Karl Stefanovic on The Today Show, his DMs have been swamped by “baddies.” According to credible sources, he was “spewing” to make his Pro Junior heat in Lennox over the weekend—specifically because it stuck a fork in his plans to rendezvous with one such baddie in Sydney.

As for Ritualistic Tendencies, Dion says the film’s most iconic session (so far) unfolded at a Mexican right-hand point that was “about as good as a wave gets.”

“The goal is to have everyone together on trips—surfing, hanging out, feeding off each other,” says Dion. “We want the film to be trip-based, built around shared experiences, not just a bunch of random clips stitched together.” ‘Ritualistic Tendencies’ will drop later this year. “The crew was stacked. Mason, Mikey, Rolo, Holly, Milla, Hughie… the level was insane,” says Dion. “It was actually my birthday. I got food poisoning, spewed my guts out, passed out on the beach—but still, one of the best sessions I’ve ever witnessed.”

Both Dion and Wade noted the aerial tit-for-tat between Hughie and Mikey as a standout moment. “Hughie was stomping massive punts. Mikey was just decimating it on a bunch of Burch’s and JS’,” Dion says.

“You’ve got no idea if he’s [Mikey] even surfed in the past month,” says Dion. “I didn’t really realise until this year that that’s just how he operates—he’s that gnarly at freesurfing. I really hope this film shows how good he actually is. Everyone knows Mikey, everyone’s seen footage of him, but I don’t think there’s been a solid collection that really shows it all. Repeater probably came closest, but even then, he’s done so much more since. What’s blown me away is how consistent he is. I thought he might just go big every now and then and hope for the best—but it’s actually every session.”

Wade added, “They both have that mindset of, ‘If he can do it, I can do it.’ They just get shit done.”

As for product, Dion says Ritual’s bestsellers are the wrapped Dragstar, Demon Speed, and Teenage Zero frames—big sun coverage, low-brow cool. But he’s clear: sunnies are just the means to an end.

“We never wanted to be just another product brand. Surf films and the team—that’s the engine. That’s what builds culture,” Dion says. “That’s how we grew up. Watching videos. Frothing out. Wanting to surf. Wanting to be part of something.”

And now, with Mason as high priest, Parker as stateside spirit guide, and Hughie as the ascendant heir—the Vision is spreading.
