Watch: Stab’s Guide To Kalbarri, WA
Stab and Summer Bright explore a vibrant pocket of surf culture!
Welcome to episode three of About Town, a new series from Stab and Summer Bright in which we explore, with gusto, the most vibrant pockets of Australian surf culture. We’re all fond of a road trip, or a weekend getaway; It’s the Australian surf dream. And if you happen to live in Oz, there needn’t be any reason why you should look beyond its coastlines.
It was Stab and Summer Bright’s wish to unfold the secrets of what makes some of our favourite surf towns great: Where to get coffee, where to surf, where to jump off, who to watch out for in the lineup, where to dine, where to enjoy some post-surf suds, and more. And of course, we tapped some local pros to be our hosts.
Six hours north of Perth, in the nation’s western state, lies Kalbarri. Picture a humble country town nestled between endless expanses of Indian Ocean and inhospitable Australian desert. Natural footer-turned-goofy, Ry Craike, played host during our visit, revealing the shiny pearls within this red-earth clamshell. Climb into the back of Ry’s 4wd alongside Harry Bryant and Brent Dorrington and take in the sights, everything from the area’s thrilling rock shelfs to the best place to shoot pool over refreshments.
