Imagine Having A World Champ Stamp Your Ticket To A Best-In-The-Biz Training Program
EDP’s Surf For Tomorrow Proving Camp is about to pop off in the Atlantic.
It is remarkably difficult to qualify for the CT. Ask anyone who has spent a decade or more hammering the QS/CS — bonus points if you look them in the eyes while doing so.
But, there are things you can do early on to stack the deck in your favor. EDP’s Surf For Tomorrow program is one such thing. It exists to help the next generation of European talent get to the CT. At its core, SFT is an ongoing training camp turned into a video series.
The brainchild of Tiago Pires and his coach Zé Seabra, SFT is now on its thrid season. And they’ve tapped 2015 World Champ Adriano de Souza to help out this go around.
The SFT team consists of four surfers: Janire Etxabarri, Matias Canhoto, Hans Odriozola, and Kai Odriozola. But they need to prove they belong to stay there.
This week, eight other young surfers will meet up with the team on an Atlantic Island for a Proving Camp. The new surfers are Annette Etxabarri, Maria Salgado, Lua Escudeiro, Martim Fortes, Guilherme Ribeiro, Lucas Camargo, Dylan Donegan, and Jaime Veselko.
They’ll be tested physically through exercises like paddle races and breath holds. They’ll be tested mentally by a sports psychologist. And, most importantly, they’ll surf their hearts out. The program includes a mini comp and video part challenge — and plenty of time to freesurf under the watchful eyes of Tiago, Adriano, and Zé, who’ll load them up with advice as they go.
If any of the new kids blow up, they’ll earn a long-term spot on the SFT team.
The camp will run from November 9 – 12, and we’ll take you behind the scenes on our IG stories.
The forecast is looking good. See ya there.
