Drugs, The 70’s, Olympics And Spicoli: An Interview With Kelly Slater

Joe Buck and The King are an entertaining combination.

Seriously, how awesome is Kelly Slater’s PR game nowadays? The old King was so guarded. Apart from a reserved comment here and there or a brief humanising explosion of emotion, we never really felt like we got enough to bond with the real man beneath. The new Kelly rules, @kellyslater is one of surfing’s most entertaining social media accounts, his artificial wave destroys the internet on the reg (the one he promptly sold to the WSL like a boss), Outerknown is making headlines, Kelly Slater Designs is a thing and his interviews are intimate and insightful

Kelly recently sat down with sports presenter Joe Buck for an interview on the program ‘Undeniable with Joe Buck’, three snippets of which Stab was given for previewing purposes. Topics covered include competitive surfing in the 1970’s, drug culture, Kelly’s relationship with his mother, meeting Sean Penn and his thoughts on surfing become an olympic sport. The full program airs tonight 8pm ET/PT or 1pm AEST on the Audience Sports Channel. What a pleasure it is to see the GOAT kitted in his dapper Outerknown wares, joking of how stoner Jeff Spicoli is the greatest movie character of all time! You’re welcome.
