Dane Reynolds Hand-Picked This Tahitian Kid to Join the CI Team
When you see Eimeo Czermak’s first wave on a Merrick, you’ll understand why.
It was less than a month ago that we brought you Eithan Osborne’s Happy Talk.
The film was almost entirely produced in and around Ventura, that is with the exception of one foreign section: Tahiti. Eithan invited Dane to join he and Andrew Jacobson at the home of local legend Thierry Dominique for a week of warm water and waves that were larger than waist high. It turns out, they found more than they were looking for.
Many great anecdotes begin with the most fascinating of discoveries being made in the least likely of places… this isn’t one of them. Teahupoo has bred some of the finest backside tube riders in the world, none younger or more promising than Eimeo Czermak, the latest member of the Channel Islands team.
Eimeo’s been dropping ridiculous clips from Chopes since he was pre-teen. At 17 years of age he’s likely the best juvenile backhand tube rider in the world, evidenced by his skills catching the eye of none other than Dane. As the story goes, Dane was as impressed with Eimeo’s welcoming and hospitable attitude as he was his surfing, prompting him to get the young Tahitian a batch of boards from Britt Merrick.,
With the above clip being Eimeo’s first wave on a CI (a 6’2 Happy Step-Up to be exact), it’s safe to say Britt and the CI team should be expecting to increase their annual blank inventory. With good boards under his feet and youth by his side we doubt Eimeo will be pulling back any time soon.
