Ryan Callinan, below enemy lines, NSW
Ryan Callinan has been a busy man of late. After returning from a recent stint in Brazil, he threw the anchor down on the NSW South Coast and expelled some serious energy in the salt. But it was back at home, along the iconic Newcastle stretch, that he got all crazy in front of photographer Zac Heath. “Like most Monday mornings in Newcastle it’s a bit of a slow and dusty start for the youth of the city after a Sunday night sesh,” says Zac. “After dragging myself out of bed I grabbed my gear and made my way down to the beach and saw Ryan already hard at it. Ryan was absent from the Sunday session, which I guess is why he was throwing huge backside spins above the lip like this, and not wallowing in the dunes like myself. The session was a lot mellower, providing fun barrels and ramps, unlike the day before which claimed a number of Ryan’s boards.”
