Kolohe Andino, Lowers intimacy, CA
“Lowers was peaky and a little weird this morning ’cause of the NW swell crossing up the south swell,” says Quinn Matthews, photographer of the Kolohe Andino moment you see above. With the Hurley Pro starting in two days, all eyes (and stickered surfboards) are on Lowers right now. The waves aren’t cooperating a whole lot, but everyone’s getting theirs regardless. “Around 8am it turned to sheet glass, only the sun wasn’t out, but for the most part it was consistent, waist-to-head high walls,” Quinn continues. “Kolohe’s local knowledge showed in wave selection for peaky lowers and he was one of the morning’s standouts, among a few others like Ian Crane and Gabriel Medina.”
