Kai Hing Aims for the Penthouse, Sunshine Coast, QLD

“This was my first trip shooting with Kai,” recalls photographer Tom Carey. “He’s a super mellow kid, and was working his ass off with me. He’s a great surfer. It was funny, though, he fully came out of his shell on the last day. Turned into your typical witty grom giving everyone shit.” Straight off a week with Tom, Kai jumped over to New Zealand where he won the junior event at Taranaki. “I have this weird luck where if I shoot with someone for a week or so before a they surf a contest, they always do well. I think just freesurfing a bunch before the event does the trick.”
