During a lay day at the Billabong Pro, J-Bay, Jordy took his gal and some pals (like Ryan Miller, who shot this) to the Seaview game park, to look at some things that can kill you. The lion, or Panthera leo, is an apex predator, which means it’s the schoolyard bully, top of the food chain. So, like, it’s badass. Despite their big, sharp teeth, most creatures that fall prey to the lion die by strangulation. So what d’ya think’s going through Jordy Smith’s mind right now, staring into those eyes?
Sure, this kitty’s only 15 months old and weighs 150kg (it’ll soon get to 250kg), but being a guinea pig ain’t so cool: “You guys are the first ones to go in the pen with these lions at this age,” said the lion trainer. “We usually stop visits at one year. You guys look relaxed enough to go in with them so we want you to go.”
