Jay Davies, power play on the Gold Coast

Jay Davies is from Western Australia, a cornucopia of surfing-til-you-can’t-stand-up-no-more. He’ll get up early and chase groomed Heineken bottles then when the wind hits mid-morning (and it always hits), he’ll go find ramps. And won’t have to look hard. If you live at a city beach, you’ll know the hopelessness of looking for the least crowded peak, but in WA you’ll mostly be left searching for someone to surf with, not least of all because of the unspeakables that are populating the lineup more and more (pre-cull approval, that is…). But when Jay hops over the dirt to the east side of Oz, the less-accommodating variables (crowds!) do nothing to eat away at his thrill to surf. Hence the enthusiasm he’s funnelling into this turn at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast. With the Quiksilver Pro firing up a month from now and the Burleigh Breaka rolling before that, expect to see a whole lot of vision coming from just above the border in the coming weeks.
