Gallery: Tweed River, Of All Places, Turns On
A novelty with vigour!
Surfing has always had a predilection with novelty venues. There’s just something particularly captivating about familiar photos of familiar people in familiar poses, but in a highly unfamiliar place. Like being acquainted with that person you almost met at that one party you never went to.
Which is why, when an oddity roars to life, and the lenses take a brief respite from their scheduled programming to cover, we watch. Such was the case this weekend. Courtesy of an oddly angled southeast swell, waves wrapped into the normally dormant (and v sharky) Tweed River. The result: Hazel tinted right-hand perfection.
“The Tweed River was incredible today, sick barrels,” photographer Juan Carlos Medina told Stab when he slid these photos into our morning email cache. “I went for a shoot with Jackson Coffey, Korbin Hutchings, Reef Doig, and Dru Adler.”
“This wave in the Tweed River gets good every 10 years,” Jackson adds. When asked how his health is holding up after spending time in the murky hangers, he laughed: “Mate, we’re not feeling the best.”
