Are you surprised? Are you shocked that Adriano De Souza, 25 and from Brazil, has won the Billabong Pro, Jeffreys Bay? You should not be. Whatever you feel about the way in which he rides waves, Adriano is current world number four. He met French surfer Joan Duru in the final at J-Bay (who’d actually scalped Jordy Smith en route), and planted a 16-point total to take the cherry. He even lost a fin in the rocks on one wave, opting to run around a scoop a new board on the way.
“I’ve come to South Africa and to Jeffreys Bay for so many years, and have always seen the guys win the Billabong Pro, and now it’s my turn,” said Adriano. “I’m just so happy, and I’m going to remember this win for my whole life. J-Bay is a special place for me and hopefully see you again next year.”
