If the “Carve Of The Year” Award existed, JJF might win it at 2:04.
Watch John do better surfing in one day than most surfers do in a lifetime in this 4-minute edit.
If you can produce this level of surfing in one session then you can indeed walk away from a $30 million contract.
The North Shore is waking up, stumbling to the coffee pot, and checking its Instagram feed. In John John Florence’s recent film “Gravity”, he mentions how the air on the North Shore smells different and the ground literally and figuratively seems to shake when Winter comes back around.
In this mini edit, entitled matter-of-factly “The Day Before Yesterday”, John John takes a few clips from this past Sunday, sets it to some music, and per usual, lets his surfing do the bragging. The highlights for me were the Hercules carve at 2:04 and the ender. Worth the wait.
John has momentum going into the North Shore contest season. I just heard Ross Williams say on the Haleiwa Challenger broadcast that the current heat leaders were “like lions eating their young” — whatever that means.
But a (relatively) injury-free John may make him the apex predator at Haleiwa and at the other spots on the North Shore circuit. While we await his Lion King moment, take a look back at our long form interview that Stab did with John a few weeks back to see where his mind is at as he turns 30.
