Goofy Foot Surfers Claim Ownership Of 2021

The dying battle of the stances just got defibrillated back to life.

While some may consider the regular vs. goofy debate a fruitless endeavor, it’s engraved in our roots. As youngsters, we often learn to surf with our feet side by side. This continues until our surf bar/bat mitzvah when we reach adulthood and choose our stance. Embracing one perspective, we turn our back on the other, declaring it immoral.

While some have entertained the idea of “switch-stance surfing,” the rest remain stubborn in their old ways, demanding bloodshed.

The highlight reel above shows Will Aliotti’s and Nic Von Rupp’s most memorable 2021 pits from Indonesia, the Canary Islands, Portugal, France, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Titled “Year of the Goofy,” the 2021 surf odyssey has put the theoretical ball in the court of regular-footed surfers.
