What Constitutes A “Man Turn”?
Levi Slawson submits a 90 second visual proposal.
The phrase “man turn” is the sort of gendered language my English professors would’ve fretted over.
Whatever your definition may be, Levi Slawson is good at them. In this 90-second Salty Crew edit, you will see a Fight Club level of force meeting force. There are no lifestyle shots or b-roll, just a blitzkrieg of quick, hard surfing.
Levi Slawson is also good at airs, or “man ramps” as the title suggests (and no, not that Man Ramp). I recall Jordy Smith once saying that the future of surfing lies in extreme combos — high airs and bloodthirsty carves mixed together in a hearty stew.
Levi’s on-wave attitude is similar to Tristan “T-Funk” Funkhouser’s on-concrete attitude. There is a consecrated potency evident throughout the edit, that makes you want to take your own worries out on a watery wall. It’s rather cathartic, isn’t it?
I was going to hyperlink my favorite bits, but at a minute and a half I figured you’d have your own quickly enough.
