Watch: William Aliotti (Still) Does Not Need A Center Fin To Land Full Ros And Slay Pigs
And now, he’s doing it with a Billabong sticker on his board.
January 1st, for many people, opens with some degree of a hangover and an empty promise in the direction of self-betterment.
For William Allioti, 2026 began with a new sticker on his Lovelace twinny.
After fifteen years with Volcom, the 32-year-old from Saint Martin signed with Billabong late last year. Contractually, he had to stay with Volcom until Dec 31. Then, overnight, the stone morphed into a three-wave set drawn by Gordon Merchant on the Gold Coast in 1973.
And, he quickly got to work. The Billabong deal unlocked a media budget deeper than what William has ever had in the past. So, it was time to make a clip.
“For months I moved from continent to continent, chasing conditions that never fully aligned,” he claims. “Winter was unpredictable, and entire trips were reduced to a single wave, sometimes less, as time slipped and resources stretched thin. A reminder that surfing does not bend to intention and rarely rewards effort in a straight line.
What was meant to be a reset back home in Europe became something unexpected. Free from the weight of expectation, the waves finally showed, the timing clicked, and the score I had been searching for across the world turned out to be waiting right where everything had started.”
It doesn’t hurt when your adopted hometown of Hossegor trots out waves that evoke the ol’ ‘best in a decade’ superlative. But, the opening section from Bocas del Toro seemed to be worth the 24-ish hours of travel required to get there from SW France. And the beachbreak savants among us will recognize the sometimes subtle difference between Hossegor and Supertubos, which are both seen in this clip.
All up, it features a rather impressive — and diverse — array of clips for three months of surfing. Hit play and enjoy the fruits of the first trimester. Plenty more coming, they say.
