How Do You Glass A Surfboard?
A free tutorial from arguably the best to ever do it, Jack Reeves.
If Owl Chapman is the Peter Fonda of surfboard making, Jack Reeves is Dennis Hopper – both of the men complementing one another perfectly, a couple of “easy riders” no doubt.
Chapman and Reeves have been building boards together since 1970, perfecting their craft in parallel and stamping their names into the North Shore legacy. Both men work in veiled secrecy, opening their doors for few, while churning out special, hand-crafted surfboards day after day. Each board is built for the love of surfing – soul, not sport.
But it isn’t easy to get your foot through that door, especially with a camera. And better yet, to get yourself inserted into the step-by-step glassing process that’s taken decades to perfect, all the while wrapped in banter from two legends of the craft.
With all of that said, this is a golden ticket into the lives and workflow of master laminator Jack Reeves, with cameos by Owl Chapman, and just a snippet from our weekly North Shore news show, The Pick-Up. A Stab and Vans joint. Watch Episode One here.
