Remember The Pathos-Laden Brazil Portion Of View From A Blue Moon?

JJF is back in the land of fruit sorbet and samba and likes it.

In 2015, View From a Blue Moon (with its budget of $2 million) became the first surf film fully shot in 4k.

To the surf world, it was a cinematographic revelation. Like our version of Wizard of Oz where the world suddenly goes from black-and-white to stunning color.

We weren’t in 1080p Kansas anymore.

The Brazil portion of that film was a highlight for me. The ambient sounds of the cars honking, the soccer balls being kicked, and the people laughing combined with the pulsing soundtrack was sort of… emotional.

In this short edit, we get a similar feel. The clip opens with old John footage from past CT events and freesurfs. We see a long haired, sans-goatee, pre-mogul John in all his glória. At the end of the clip, we get more recent evidence of John’s affinity for Brazil. We also get a little taste of something John may be working on — tweaked slobs. They look scrumptious.

And it’s a good thing John likes Brazil, he could use a result at this year’s Rio Pro.

Currently sitting at 7th position on the CT rankings, a solid showing would obviously help his shot at the Final Five. The comp waiting period starts tomorrow, June 23rd.

Let’s just pray he doesn’t try any backflips.
