The inaugural Surf Abu Dhabi Pro has added five names to the heat draw. Three wildcards, two injury replacements.

Interestingly, no Mitch Crews or Kelly Slater. They’ve gone hard at Gen Z with this one.

Wildcards

Kauli Vaast (FRA): 2024 Olympic gold medalist
Macy Callaghan (AUS): Highest-ranked APAC surfer on the Challenger Series, former tour vet.
Bronson Meydi (INA): 2024 World Junior Champion, Stab High finalist

Injury Replacements

Ian Gentil (HAW): Filling in for Gabriel Medina (BRA) due to injury, former tour vet
Mateus Herdy (BRA): Replacing Crosby Colapinto (USA), 12th on 2024 Challenger Series, Stab High finalist

Exciting times. This will be a tricky one for the bookies.

For reference, previous pool winners include:

Gabriel Medina + Carissa Moore (2018)
Gabriel Medina + Lakey Peterson (2019)
Filipe Toledo + Johanne Defay (2021)
Griffin Colapinto + Carissa Moore (2023)
