Calling all Non-Creatives

Have some urges, they said.

Hey, you. Yes, you, the self-doubter, the overthinker, the hypercritic, and self-saboteur who daily convinces yourself that art is not a viable pursuit… at least not for you

I get it. Making things is hard — being a critic is not. But, as someone who’s spent three-tenths of a century laboring under a sundry of delusions, I can attest that none of them are rooted in truth.

The tao of Homer.

Whether the obstacle in your path is fear or lack of confidence, skill, time, motivation, or some combination of these, you are the only one truly stopping yourself from following the small voice in your soul and embarking on the aesthetic dreams you were made to pursue(!).

Not only can you make art. You are art.

If that is the case, consider this your official call to arts – an open, annual invitation to put your sh*t out there and either get recognized or at least recognize yourself as a maker. A creator. An artist. You can do this by simply tapping the ‘Share’ button on Instagram and entering Slowtide‘s annual Creative Canvas Contest.

In a platform of their own making, Slowtide – a brand well-known for transforming the humble towel into a true canvas for artwork, as well as collaborating with world-renowned artists, photographers, and art organizations – is looking for their next great collaborator… and it could be you!

Be the collab.

In case you’re still waffling on whether or not you should enter (you should), consider the fact that all humans are creatives – not just the ones who describe themselves as such in social media bios.

Countless great thinkers, artists, and way-changers throughout human history have spoken on this truth, including Albert Einstein, who stated that “True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist.” Note the absence of any mention of material conditions or creative quotas.

WWBD?

Everyone’s favorite Air-Force-Sergeant-turned-softspoken-painting-instructor, Robert Norman Ross, also famously asserted that “We don’t make mistakes; we have happy accidents.”

So, if there ever was a time to put yourself out there, have some urges, and maybe even a happy accident or two, now is that time.

Entry closes on August 31, 2022. Visit Slowtide for full details.
