Who Would Win In A Fist-Fight: Jaleesa Vincent, Holly Wawn, Macy Callaghan, Or Pacha Light?

Tomorrow we’ll release the third of eight total Stab Highway presented by Monster Energy episodes.

(Watch episode one here. Watch episode two here.)

In it, you’ll see more surfing, more challenges, and more general tomfoolery — ornamental piercings, Bad haircuts, floater-to-airs, the whole deal. But try as we might, it’s impossible to capture everything that happened on this multidirectional journey and package it into tidy 22-minute packages. A lot of the best bits reside only in the minds of those who trekked across coastal New South Wales, so we thought it’d be a good idea to crack one open and pry out any missed details.

This week, we rang up Pacha Light — surfer, environmentalist, and leader of a team looks like surfing’s version of the Isle of Misfit Toys — and asked a few questions about her Stab Highway experience. See below.

Stab: Who would win in a fist-fight — you, Holly, Jaleesa, or Macy?
Pacha Light: Definitely not Macy. She’s got crazy muscles and I’ve seen her throw hands before but she’s too nice. Holly and Jaleesa most likely, but I’ve got some Latina in me, so I wouldn’t count myself out.

Mind you, it’s hard to imagine any of them agro. They’re all angels. Who rip.

How was your team’s chemistry? Did you feel like you guys got closer towards the end of the trip? Or couldn’t wait to get away from each other?
It was meant to be. They (Dion Agius, Mckenzie Bowden, Sheldon Simkus) were the kindest, most light-hearted and easy-going crew.

Right answer. How did you end up in the snowy mountains?
The boys were out drinking beers by the pool. There was this guy sitting with them who convinced them there was a ‘sick standing wave in the Snowy mountains’. The boys were sold, and the next morning we were leaving Crescent Head at 3am to go snowboarding.

Not where Pacha expected to be on this surf trip.

What happened on the trip that you wouldn’t tell your mum?
Hmmm. I’ll play this one safe. I wouldn’t tell her we went snowboarding given I’d broken my wrist and needed surgery a year before. Promise I’m a good girl mum. *winks*.

If you were stranded on a desert island with no food or water, which team member would you take with you?
Probably Mckenzie. I reckon he’d have the best survival skills. He could probably climb a tree for a coconut. I know Mac doesn’t eat fish, so I guess we’d be living off seaweed soup and seaweed chips… Hmm, I might need to retract my decision, I’m not sure how much seaweed I could eat. Let me get back to you on that.

When did you decide you’d had enough of wearing a wetsuit?
I wore it for 3 days, but then one evening we decided to get our ornamental body piercings. We were at my partner’s place in the Clarence Valley, and his sister – an energy healer offered to give me a turtle bone piercing.

It became a full ceremony with sage smoke and everything. However, the needle was tiny and we had to do it multiple times. It was super painful and it kind of shook me. I was emotional and all I wanted was a warm shower and a good sleep. So I pulled the pin. When I took my wettie down, my skin was damp and peeling.

I will never do that again.

Sweet neoprene dreams.

Supposedly, you were given your first surfboard after a stellar Rihanna dance performance at the Roxy Pro. Can you elaborate on this a bit? Who was the stranger?
As kids, my brother and I stumbled across a local boardriders contest and we were sucked right in. All we wanted to do was surf, but my mum didn’t have enough money at the time to get us boards. So I decided to busk.

I ended up setting up a stereo one day across the road from the Roxy Pro with a sign saying ‘busking for a board’. Long story short, this woman walks past and joins in.

She went to her car and returned with one of her backup boards that I ended up riding for the next year. She introduced herself as Laura (Enever). So yeah, I love Laura. I fangirled pretty hard after a google search.

Did hanging out with a bunch of freesurfers corrupt your desire to grind it out on the Quey?
Well and truly. I mean, I feel like I was on my way out anyway. But if there was any doubt in my mind that freesurfers have a pretty good gig, there’s certainly none now. We had so much fun and on the last night all I could think about was that I hope that we can do this again soon.

Apparently, Stab Highway presented by Monster Energy is carbon neutral and this is your doing. Please explain.
Yep, I asked Danny if we could offset the kilometres on the dashboard with SeaTrees and he said yes. They’re basically a not-for-profit NGO that grows mangroves, sea kelp, and coral all around the world to sequester carbon and help reforest the planet. So yeah, Stab Highway is carbon neutral.
