My Style, with Ryan Callinan

My Style, with Ryan Callinan, 19, Merewether, NSW Waves: A rip-bowl left or a barrelling left with really, really big ramps. Locale: Hossegor, in France. It’s not massive and still has a townish vibe. It gets pretty popular and crowded but still has this nice homely feel. Lots of baguettes, breads, pastries. And, lots and lots of girls there, too. Film: I like comedies or action movies. Recently I saw The Inbetweeners, which I thought was hilarious. And, The Town. That was so good. Music: I’m really cruisy with my music. At the moment I’ve been liking rap, but I’ll kinda listen to anything. My all-time artists are… well, Kanye. I like how confident he is. Everyone seems to hate him for it but I love it, I reckon it’s sick how confident and cocky he always is, talking about himself and how good he is (laughs.) Muse: Blonde hair, big boobs, with a really good sense of humour. And, of course, she needs to be really nice. I don’t care about eye colour and I don’t really care what she likes or is into. Just so long as she’s really cool and funny. Ringtone: This battle horn sound, which is kinda heinous. But I’ve just changed to the horn because the one before has been driving my parents nuts while I’ve been home. Whip: I drive a silver VX Holden Commodore wagon, 2000 model, but… my style? I’d love to have an Audi wagon or something like that. Liquor: I like beer. I think Corona’s are the best probably. It’s funny because Corona is a bit of a novelty for us (Australians) but in the US no one’s that into it ‘cause they see so much of it. Party: I’ve changed a bit lately. I used to just like going to the pub and seeing all my mates, like a party where everyone’s just hanging out. But lately I’ve been getting into nightclubs and stuff, going out dancing and having fun, being silly and whatever. It’s been funny. So, anywhere with loud music. Fashion: Standard? (Laughs). Just standard surfy, I guess. I’m heaps surf (laughs). Not classy at all, but maybe a little bit classier than your average. Like, I don’t wear boardshorts everywhere. Sled: 3P surfboard, 5’11” x 18’1/4” x 2’1/4”. Occasionally, I step down to a 5’10”. Mostly rounded squares. Always glassed fins, every time. I don’t know that much about boards, to be honest. Crib: I’d love to live in Merewether, in a nice house that’s not too over-the-top. Semi, but not super-modern. Just really homely. Not too huge, but close to the beach. Laptop: Apple MacBook. It’s my first Mac – I bought it two years ago, but before that I had a Dell. I like Mac’s way better – they’re faster and everything’s easier. Fun: Hanging with my mates, who I don’t get to see much. Just doing fun stuff with them like going to the movies or watching them skate, or whatever really. Just being a teenager. Non-automotive transport: I love bike riding. Well I don’t love it, but I miss being 16 and riding everywhere around home with my mates. Walking takes to long. Non-water sport: Probably basketball. I don’t watch heaps of it but I love playing it. That and ping-pong. I don’t mind a bit of golf, either. TV show: How I Met Your Mother! And, Entourage, How To Make It In America and Family Guy. Meal: Chicken Parmigiana with mash potato. You can’t beat it. And a beer. So good. Caffeine: I very, very rarely drink coffee. Pretty much only if everyone else is having one. But I hang out with people who get coffee and I’ll just get a hot chocolate. Broken bone: Fibula. The only style I’ve had (Ryan just had his cast removed). It’s not my preferred style – if I had to break something, it’d probably just be a finger or something. So I can still do stuff with it. Ace: At the moment, just going as big as I can and not caring if I land or not. Just trying the craziest thing possible, frontside or backside, it doesn’t matter.
